There are moments when I feel like I'm on top of the world. It feels like I can conquer anything. I declare to myself that I am going to do all this undeniable work and such and that nothing will stop me from getting it done.
This motivational high can last for a couple days or even a couple of hours, but for some strange reason, I always hit a wall. In turn, I feel like nothing is worth trying at all, and all I end up wanting to do is lay in bed scrolling my life away all day long.
It takes a lot of work to get out of that type of slump and it usually doesn't happen overnight. It can take days, weeks or months depending on the severity. All aspects of my life are affected by it, including my ability to maintain a clean and orderly home, which makes matters worse.
Yes, I am taking medication for depression, but I am learning that the drugs are not meant to eliminate the condition; they are meant to help make it more manageable.
In order to win my ongoing battle with depression, I'm slowly, but surely learning that the best strategy is to double up on exercise and significantly cut out all foods that are upsetting my emotions and making me feel worse.
In a recent conversation with my doctor, I learned that my ongoing battle with depression requires more than just a basic approach to overcome, since it originates from more than one source. In my case, hypothyroidism, mental health problems, poor diet and exercise habits, genetics and age are just a few of the many conditions that are ganging up on me and causing severe depression as a result.
As opposed to most people, who can complete a 30 minute exercise session and just go about their days, I have todo twice the work.
For this reason, from now on, rather than chasing a specific number on the scale, my primary goal at this time is to be good emotional health.
Up until now, I wanted to achieve a certain image, now I just want to achieve good overall health. A healthy physical image will come when I address the core of my issues.
That being said, this week I am going to the gym and getting a membership and starting to process of starting a fitness-centered lifestyle.
